i didnt say you guys buy nice houses, i said you buy average houses, you can't afford nice ones, and certainly not in nice neighborhoods. you buy all things average, but somehow to you, they appear grand. you simply have a different frame of reference, that's all I am trying to say. but even buying that much, you do it for show. i hope i am getting it across better now. americans buy stuff too, of course, but most of them do it for themselves, not for the neighbors although i do know some who are pretty much like you guys. interestingly, those some are mainly second- or third-generation americans of russian/jewish extraction. isnt that telling?
now the meaning of "ghetto" is not quite what you guys think. ghetto doesn't necessarily mean slums, and yes, russian neighborhoods are better than american inner city slums, but that wasn't my point. ghetto is also something that's set apart from the whole, the whole in this case being the mainstream america.
and finally, 80K is the average salary of educated american professionals, not the average salary of all americans including burger flippers, so i suggest you specify the labor dept. statistics. and in fact, 80k or around could be entry level wage for some professions, such as financiers, medical doctors, stock brokers, and even attorneys if they're lucky enough to land a job with prestigious law firms.

the statistics come from life. i know a lot of people who make that much money, including recent college grads on their first jobs. officially, i think you can check out msn, cnn, and other sites which put out those numbers once in a while. actually, the last time i checked, they were higher than mine for the average salaries. i wouldn't trust the labor dept all that much because the gov's take is a bit skewed, just like with real estate values.
i am not telling you which house to buy and i certainly don't advise. i am telling you what kind of houses you're actually buying and what you think about those buys, that's all.
nice house and nice neighborhood in the chicago area would probably be on the northshore, starting from wilmette and all the way up north to lake forest. however, even those areas have mediorcre housing and poorer enclaves, especially west wilmette and highland park. also, in evanston, the lake front mansions cost a fortune. in the city, it would be downtown and the gold coast, and there are a couple on the south shore, like flossmoor, for instance. but again, there are shacks in those areas as well. it's just that they're expensive overall. the prices would probably range from 700K to millions of dollars.

Для анонима: Думаю теперь пора представить широкой общественности веские доказательства того что ты обладаеш таким самым домом за лимон. Рекомендую быть изобретатьльным с доказательствами, а то знаеш за ли линк на фотку дома Мела Гибсона тебя здесь под орех разделают.
И еще: а) кратость - сестра таланта, а с этим у тебя явно туго; б) неплохо бы блеснуть своим перфектным русским, а то народ уже сомневается в твоей интеллектуальной адекватности этому форуму.

i dont remember saying that i have a million dollar house. what i said was that most russians buy inexpensive real estate in average areas thinking that they bought a crown jewel and feel bitter and jealous of everybody else. i quoted the prices at the request of somebody on this thread who asked what would constitute a nice house in a nice area, that's all.

zluka, i didnt say i was bitter and jealous, i just said most russians are. i am not russian in the first place, and in the second, i am not looking for people with million dollar houses for the sake of the houses. if they happen to have one, good for them, but this is not the point. i agree, though, that russians wouldnt probably look your way if they had one, but among americans, it's kind of rare. i can tell you that i had, among my college mates, lots of very affluent people who are still my friends and who never flaunted their wealth as russians would do if they had any.

- Чё за бредятина? Единственное, что может раздражать, так это непрошенная мужская инициатива. Это когда силища много, а применяет он их не там, где МНЕ НАДО. Вот это просто бесит. Его никто не просил, он начинает делать, не там, ни туда, не так ааааааа- убью нафик! С другой стороны, когда просишь и не делает, тоже бесит. Поэтому мне по душе человек, который способен отреагировать, когда просят и не лезть в бутылку, когда НЕ просят.
