The Village of Buffalo Grove has learned from ComEd that approximately 254,000 customers in the North Region which includes Buffalo Grove are out of power as a result of the storm this morning. Systemwide, ComEd has more than 561,000 customers out of power. ComEd crews are working diligently to restore power to all affected areas. The damage to the area is significant.
If you or someone you know does not have power, contact 1-800-Edison1 (800-334-7661) to report the outage. Individuals are also encouraged to contact ComEd to report any electric lines that are down.
There are two cooling centers that are open from 1:30 pm until 7:00 pm this evening: • Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd, Buffalo Grove, telephone) 847-459-2518. • Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, 601 Deerfield Parkway, Buffalo Grove, telephone) 847-353-7500.
The Indian Trails Public Library and the Vernon Area Public Library are also open until 9:00 pm.
Waste Management has advised the Village that refuse and recycling pick-up was slightly delayed as a result of the storm, although the crews have resumed pick-up in Buffalo Grove.
The following information pertains to Food Safety During Power Outages: If the power is out for less than 2 hours, then the food in your refrigerator and freezer will be safe to consume. While the power is out, keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to keep food cold for longer. If the power is out longer than 2 hours, follow the guidelines below: • For the Freezer section: A freezer that is half full will hold food safely for up to 24 hours. A full freezer will hold food safely for 48 hours. Do not open the freezer door if you can avoid it. • For the Refrigerated section: Pack milk, other dairy products, meat, fish, eggs, gravy, and spoilable leftovers into a cooler surrounded by ice. Inexpensive Styrofoam coolers are fine for this purpose. • Use a food thermometer to check the temperature of your food right before you cook or eat it. You don't have to hold on the phone, it's all automatic. Enter you billing phone number or account number and get estimated time of restoration... if you are lucky. Mine still has no specific time of restoration available.
