Start with the right tools. Scissors are good for paper, but too risky for bonsais. Now look down and admire your bonsai. Envision all that it can be. Will you simply trim the bush? Or shave it completely to reveal the trunk in all its glory? The smoother one looks, the farther one goes, and the longer one stays. To shave your bonsai, move against the growth of the bush, and proceed to the underbrush.
