HR Manager – Trucking Company (Experience Required)

We are seeking an experienced HR Manager with recent trucking industry experience to lead all HR functions, with a primary focus on driver retention, driver relations, and compliance. This role is hands-on and operational, not corporate HR.
Requirements (Mandatory)
Minimum 2 RECENT years working as an HR Manager in a trucking company
Proven experience managing drivers (W-2 & 1099)
Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA-related HR compliance
Experience working closely with Dispatch, Safety, Maintenance, Payroll
Strong communication, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills
Non-trucking HR experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
HR Management
Manage full HR lifecycle for drivers and office staff (onboarding, discipline, offboarding)
Oversee driver orientation, policies, acknowledgments, and documentation
Handle resignations, terminations, final pay, and HR compliance matters
Maintain HR files, systems, and internal policies
Support audits, claims, and employment-related inquiries
Driver Retention & Relations (Primary Focus)
Review daily driver roster (active, new, at-risk drivers)
Analyze driver pay reports (gross, net, RPM, accessorials)
Identify drivers with low or declining earnings
Conduct daily driver check-in calls (random and targeted)
Ask standardized retention questions (pay, miles, dispatch, equipment, home time)
Document driver concerns and identify root causes
Compare driver feedback with actual operational data
Flag and escalate issues to Dispatch, Safety, Maintenance, or Accounting
Follow up internally to ensure issues are resolved
Re-contact drivers with updates and solutions
Track driver satisfaction status (stable / watch / high risk)
Monitor retention trends and recurring issues
Support new drivers during first 30–90 days
Conduct stay-interviews with top-performing drivers
Prepare daily/weekly retention reports (calls, risks, saves)
Suggest process improvements to management
Coordinate with Recruiting to align expectations vs reality
