Toyota to Stop Selling, Building Recalled Models
Late today, Toyota announced it will stop selling the eight models included in its recent 2.3 million vehicle recall over a sticking accelerator pedal. A Toyota spokesman said, “This action is necessary until a remedy is finalized. We’re making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible.”
The company says it will also stop production of the same vehicles starting Feb. 1. The delay is likely due to the complications of leaving vehicles unfinished on the line for an extended period of time.
This is dramatic action, amid public outcry, because it includes two of the company’s and the country’s best-selling models, the Toyota Camry and Corolla. Although we were surprised there wasn’t more media attention given to the issue, which is being blamed for a number of deaths, compared to other significant recalls from large automakers.
The affected vehicles are listed below, and if you’re a current owner you can find more information about the recall here.

Я так понял што там проблема в том што педаль газа слишком длинная и если владелец использует толстые коврики то она (педаль) имеет тенденцию за них цепляца, вот и всё.

В классическом автомате (99% всех машин) сцепления вообще нет. Там стоит так называемый "torque converter" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque_converter), где чем выше обороты двигателя, тем сильнее он стремится передать их самой трансмиссии. В машинах с DSG такой проблемы нет, там реальные сцепления которые disengage.

Не, это был из прошлый рекол. Эта проблема похоже в реальном западании педали газа, коврики тут нипричем.

Toyota adds 1 million vehicles to recall

New York (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota announced Wednesday night that it is adding another 1.1 million vehicles to an an earlier 4.2 million vehicle recall originally announced in November.
The vehicles are being recalled to fix a problem in which the gas pedal can become caught on the edge of the removable floormat, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably.

The vehicles now being added to that recall are the 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza 2009-2010 Matrix, 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe.
General Motors' Pontiac car is included in the recall because the Vibe and Toyota's Matrix are similar vehicles that were produced under a partnership between the two companies.
The vehicles originally included in this recall were the 2007-2010 Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2007-2010 Lexus ES350, 2006-2010 and the 2006-2010 IS250 and IS350.
This recall is separate from one announced last week regarding accelerator pedals that could stick on their own. That recall involved 2.3 million vehicles.
Most, but not all, of the vehicles involved in the more recent recall are also involved in the older recall. They are the 2009-2010 Toyota RAV4, Corolla and Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe; the 2005-2010 Avalon; 2010 Highlander; 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia; and some 2007-2010 Camrys.
In the more recent recall, Toyota has not yet announced a proposed remedy for the problem. Owners who experience sticking or slowness in the movement of their car's gas pedal should stop driving the car and call a Toyota dealer immediately. To top of page

Без паники, это отличные машины, зафиксают и все будет нормально. Если дергаться по поводу каждого рекола нервно бежать в дилерскую другог бренда, то скорее сорвеш себе нервы чем педаль застрянет.

Тоёта действительно ухудила свои показатели. Раньше они дралось за первое место с хондой по safety , а сейчас, по моему, на третьем или на четвёртом месте.

У меня Тoyta 2009 года.Езжу второй год.Проблем никаких.А как люди ездят на 'раздолбайках' и в ус не дуют. Поэтому эмоций особых статья не вызвала.Кому суждено сгореть в огне не утонет.

Complaints pile up about Prius brakes

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- In the wake of massive recalls for gas pedal-related problems, Toyota Motor Co. is now faced with mounting complaints of brake problems in its 2010 Prius hybrid, one of the carmaker's most iconic and popular models.
In the U.S., more than 100 complaints alleging poor brake performance have been lodged with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration against the 2010 Prius, a newly designed version of the car that was introduced last summer.

In Japan, 14 complaints about brakes in the Prius have been lodged since July. Japan's Transportation Ministry has asked Toyota to investigate brake malfunction complaints in Japan on the Prius, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.
"The complaints received via our dealers center around when drivers are on a bumpy road or frozen surface," Paul Nolasco, a Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman in Japan, said. "The driver steps on the brake and they do not get as full of a braking feel as expected."
A search of NHTSA's complaint database turned up many similar-sounding complaints in the U.S..
"I have been driving my 2010 Prius for 6 months and have experienced the following nearly 10 times," wrote one owner, "When braking, if a pothole or bump in the road is hit, the car seemingly jerks forward/accelerates for a split second."

A Toyota spokesman in the U.S. was not immediately able to provide any comment on the situation. A NHTSA spokesman also did not immediately return a call for comment on the issue.
The Prius is Toyota's third best-selling model in the U.S., ranking behind only the Camry midsized sedan and the Corolla compact car.
Toyota's public image, and its sales, have been hit by recent recalls involving unintended acceleration.
Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles on Jan. 21 due to problems with sticking gas pedals and later halted the sale of the eight models involved in the recall.
Toyota's U.S. sales plunged 16% in January as a result, even as sales of other automakers rose.
About 4.2 million vehicles were recalled in November for a problem in which the cars' gas pedals could get stuck in some floor mats. The last-generation version of the Prius was included in that recall, which was expanded to include another 1.1 million last week.
Brakes in hybrid cars like the Prius operate differently from brakes in most cars. In addition to standard brakes, which use friction from pads pressed against drums or rotors, hybrid cars use their electric motors to help slow the car, a process that generates electricity to recharge the batteries. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and get them fixed.
LaHood's warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on transportation. LaHood says his advice to owners is to "stop driving it. Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."
Toyota's most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals.
LaHood told reporters earlier in the day that Toyota owners should contact their dealer immediately and "exercise caution until repairs can be made.
