What is the purpose of an order of protection? What does it actually do for the person who seeks the order? Thanks!

Protects him from contact by the offender.

Thanks! What if the offender contacts the person? or if they happen to be in a public place together; or if the person needs to contact the offender for any reason, can this order be temporarily lifted?

There are some exceptions. I really don't do orders of protection. Usually the prosecutor takes care of that.
