Urban Dogg is a local, family-owned pet grooming and pet supply store with locations in Uptown and Washington Park. Our compensation is among the best statewide and our focus is on quality and customer satisfaction. We pride ourselves in providing premium services and nutrition to our neighborhood residents and their four-legged family members. Work Hours
- 40 hours/week (five-day work week)
Responsibilities & Duties
- Get nose kisses from a client’s wet Golden Retriever
- See excitement and opportunity when you look into a Shih Tzu’s ear canal
- Make a former shelter resident look like a dashing, dapper Schnauzer again
- Help a Terrier look like a Poodle because that’s what the client asked for
But to cut to the chase: The ability to groom dogs (cats as well is preferred but not required) from head to tail (bath, customized cut, drying, brush out, ear and teeth cleaning, anal glands expressed if needed, nail trim, de-shedding, de-matting etc.) is what we’re looking for. We are also looking for a team player who can:
- Delight clients and pets with grooming services, like brushing, bathing, and conditioning
- Groom and style pets per cleints’ instruction and/or according to breed standards
- Ensure the wellness and safety of our furry patrons at all times
- Develop long-term relationships with pet parents by understanding their needs and recommending products and services that will keep their four-legged family member healthy and happy
- Perform routine cleaning of the store and workspace to keep the grooming environment fun and inviting
- Assist store team members during grooming downtime
Requirements
- Have a High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of three (3) years pet grooming experience
- Have one year of experience in retail or another service industry where you’ve provided top-notch service
- Ability to move or lift merchandise, equipment or pets weighing up to 50 pounds
- Be able to stand, bend or stoop for extended periods of time
- Candidates must be flexible in working evenings (up to 7 p.m.) and weekends. All candidates must be willing to undergo and pass a drug, background and/or validated selection test, and be 18 years or older
- Have your own grooming equipment (clippers, blades, sheers, nail clippers, etc. and be responsible for keeping tools sharpened and sanitized)
Compensation
- $45,000 - $90,000/year
As stated earlier, we pride ourselves in offering the best compensation in the industry assuming you are willing to work for it. Groomers are paid on a commission basis in conjunction with a sliding scale for performance bonuses and incentives. Paid vacation is earned after one year with the company.
